DMG on STASH 56

Posted: June 8th, 2009 |

56_frontAt long last. After years of trying, we’ve finally made it on to Stash. Our recent co production with Fusion Studios in California for Whole Water appears on the Stash 56 edition. If you’re not familiar with Stash, It’s a monthly DVD compilation of the best in animation, CGI and visual effects work from around the world. They are very picky about the submissions they choose to publish and the quality of the work is always very high, so we are mightily chuffed to be included. StashMedia are based in Vancouver, Canada.

A nasty little piece of work

Posted: April 14th, 2009 |

bgd_still_5A couple of years ago, we started to do some development work on an animated series featuring a character called Bastard Guide Dog.  B.G.D. is a particularly evil little creation from the twisted mind our good friend, writer Sion Scott-Wilson.
He’s a psychotic, homicidal guide dog, who keeps trying to dispatch his unwitting blind owner in various creative and ingenious ways. Like most serial killers (BGD has already been through several owners in his short but murderous career), he is the victim of a troubled and abusive upbringing, having had his nose rubbed in another puppy’s poop in an unfortunate fecal misunderstanding that set him on the path to revenge and retribution.

Other than a few tantalising images, some scripts, and this short trailer, sightings of B.G.D have been few and far between recently. If you’re feeling flush yourself, or have a rich aunt who has always harbored ambitions to be the executive producer of a hit animation series, then we’d love to hear from you…

Nostalgia. It just isn’t what it used to be.

Since is all gone a bit quiet out there – and in a pathetic and completely transparent attempt to maintain an outward impression of industry – we’ve uploaded a few “oldies but goodies” from our extensive back catalog of finely crafted little gems. Here’s a chance to take a (short) shuffle down memory lane, re-living those golden care-free days of yore, where tv ads were full of clever ideas and amusing characters rather than just really big prices and REALLY SHOUTY VOICE-OVERS.
Laugh along with your old friends Mushy and Sprouty from the Maggi ads, caper gaily with the cute little red guy from the SuperBank ad. Recoil in horror as the adorable Monteiths bunny cooks and eats his best friend. Barely suppress a titter as that meathead from the Starburst spot sets fire to his own appendage. Ah yes, it’s all coming flooding back now.. such happy days.

Showreel update

Posted: March 17th, 2009 |

We’ve just updated our on-line showreel again (yes I know, twice in one year, and it’s only March!), to include momentary glimpses of one or two of recent projects we’re quite chuffed with, as well as highlights from jobs over the past couple of years. A high resolution version of this movie is available on our public ftp site.

DMG on StreetView

Google’s amazing StreetView has finally made it to little old New Zealand, and just like everyone else we were keen to see what our gaff looked like. Well, pretty cool actually. Nice sunny day, a glimps of the Auckland SkyTower in the distance, and no drunks asleep on the pavement. Nice one Google. I don’t care what anyone else says, I think those two boys deserve every inch of their private 747.
